Holiday Social Takes A Step Back In Time

IFMA St. Louis members and their guests traveled back in time to celebrate this year’s holiday season. Nearly 70 people reveled and networked at The Thaxton, a throwback to the Roaring ‘20s, on Dec. 7. Located downtown, the beautifully restored art deco building was the perfect setting for the chapter’s annual holiday social.

Yes, just as in the Roaring ‘20s, everybody had a rip-roaring good time. The evening’s festivities included platters of delicious appetizers, a bevy of beverages, including the Speakeasy’s famous maraschino cherry moonshine cocktail, and lively networking. And we’re not telling if anyone did the Charleston, Shimmy or Breakaway but there just may have been some “Oliver Twists” on the dance floor!

No “bluenoses” in the crowd as certainly everyone enjoyed the vintage venue and the evening’s activities. But members and guests did more than have a good time. They also remembered to help others in need.

As in past years, our chapter reached out to the community. IFMA St. Louis President Jennifer Johnston presented a check for $1,000 to Pam Walker, board president of Heat Up St. Louis. The nonprofit organization builds awareness and provides resources to help those in need, especially the elderly and disabled, and needy families with critically ill children, avoid illnesses and deaths during winter. This extends our relationship with the organization that provides heat assistance in the winter and cool comfort in the summer for many needy people.

Additionally, members and guests donated gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, ear muffs and blankets. Those items will be distributed to various charities that help keep our area’s most vulnerable warm during the winter.

Special thanks to Kristi Gabel of Elite Cuisine who organized this year’s social. She truly was a “sockdollager” in arranging this evening to remember.
