New Member Social Sets Sail

There are good ships,
and there are wood ships,
The ships that sail the sea.
But the best ships, are friendships,
And may they always be.

That famous Irish toast wasn’t proclaimed at the New Member Social at Helen Fitzgerald’s on Oct. 2 but it certainly was part of the spirit of the evening. Some 40 members gathered at the Irish Pub and Grill to share some laughs, taste some great fare and down a pint or two.

Karl Gnau, membership development chair, welcomed members, including seven newcomers, at the informal event. Each new member introduced themselves to kick off the evening.

New members had an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn more about the benefits of their membership, as well as ways they can become more involved in chapter activities.

Jennifer Johnston, immediate past president, also reminded attendees of the upcoming program on Nov. 20 that will focus on ADA Issues in the Facility. And if members missed the new member social, they certainly should save the date for the IFMA St. Louis annual Holiday Social on Dec. 11 at the Saint Louis Zoo.

The evening also brought some Irish luck to Scott Kapper with the Brentwood School District. Scott received a $50 Amazon gift card as the winning new member in a drawing.

Here’s to Scott and all new members:

Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish (and IFMA St. Louis) be there with you.
